On March 16th, 2024, Alyce Mae Wilkinson passed away. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert C. Wilkinson. She is survived by her children Carolyn Dawn Blackburn and her husband Hugh, Darryl Glen Gray, and Vivian Diane Smith and her husband Scott; her younger brother E. Clarke Porter and his wife Phyllis; her niece Kate Porter; her grandchildren John Johnson, Hugh Clarke Blackburn, Sarah Gray, Michael Gray, and Jackie Thomas. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, cousins, and dear friends.
What can you say about Alyce “with a Y” Wilkinson? Life Long Rebel, Free-Spoken Tender Heart, Globe-trotting Traveler, Tour Bus Adventurer, the list goes on. Though many titles may fit her, the best is Truly Loved. Alyce is leaving behind a family who will miss her deeply. At the ripe old age of 17, Alyce was surprised by the arrival of her only sibling— her baby brother— Clarke. In spite of the many dirty diapers she changed, she remained undeterred in the pursuit of creating her own family, bringing into the world three children of her own. As these people grew into adults, the family expanded with in-laws, grandchildren, a niece, great-grandchildren, and many wonderful fur babies and fur grand babies, Alyce became the matriarch of a wonderfully large family. She was a complicated woman, stubborn, and impossibly sure of all she said, but the family could always depend on her steadfastness. We hope that she is now with all the family and friends who passed before her, meeting up with her father, going on an adventure with her dear husband Bob, and enjoying Wild Turkey with her cherished friend Bea. And as we all look forward to continuing on with our own lives and making big choices, I hope we hear her classic response to all those decisions — “I’ll let ‘cha.”
A Celebration of Life Party will be held on Saturday, May 4.
