Barbara Ann Johnson
October 28, 1961 - January 3, 2024
On January 3, 2024, Barbara Ann Johnson passed away. Beloved wife of the late Donald Johnson; devoted daughter of Cookie Spangler and the late Russell Spangler; loving mother of Benjamin Peace and his wife Jean, Stacey Peace and her husband Tom, Mark Hewitt, Sarah Johnson and her fiancé Alex, and Mary Johnson; dear grandmother of Kylie Palmer, Eric Giacobbe, Brycen Vance, Grayson Rosa, Hadley Rosa, Olivia Peace, and Abigail Peace. Also survived by her sisters, Terry Capps, and Wendy Foy; mother-in-law, Edith Johnson; brothers in law, Johnny Capps, and Jerry Johnson; aunt, Nancy Wallis and her husband Chris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other loving family members and friends.
Barbara passed away on January 3, 2024, in Edgemere, Maryland. She was born on October 28, 1961, in Fort Howard, Maryland, and grew up in a small community where she learned the values of hard work and selflessness.
Barbara went to Fort Howard Elementary, General John Stricker Middle School and Sparrows Point High School. She spent her younger years working on the crabbing boat alongside her father and sisters and supporting her mother in the family business. She developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the rewards of labor. She made deep connections to family and friends alike. Small town living brought her the love of her life and a beautiful family who were happy to share her with new friends, and later family, made in Frontier Town in Ocean City.
In addition to her dedication to her family, Barbara found joy in her work and community activities. She had various jobs and volunteer work including the Fort Howard VA Hospital, Fort Howard Community Church, Thee Maria's Carry Out, Edgemere Baptist Church, Baptist Christian School, Edgemere WaWa, Fort Howard Carry Out, Frontier Town Camp Store and Buck's. Whether on the clock or of the heart, Barbara gave of herself gladly - it's who she was. Throughout her life, Barbara embodied the spirit of giving, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Barbara's generosity extended beyond her professional life. She was known for her good cooking, always ready to prepare a delicious meal for family and friends. Her sense of humor and kindness brightened the lives of those around her, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Barbara was very proud of her children. She treasured her grandchildren and delighted in every chance to spoil them.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. We take enormous comfort knowing she's with her husband, Donald, who we know she thought hung the moon.
