Beryl Virginia (Ramsey) Benda

Beryl V. Benda passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024. Beryl was born on December 28, 1922 in Oakland, Maryland located in Garrett County to Ethel Felicia (nee Friend) Ramsey and Cecil Zeddy Ramsey. Beryl was number 6 of 12 children born to Ethel and Cecil: Lola Martin, Hazel Welch, Mayvelle Bennett, Gay Schultz, Fay Powell and Wanda Leighton; Playford Ramsey, Beldin Ramsey, Lambert Ramsey, Lee Ramsey and Sherwood Ramsey.


Much of Beryl's childhood memories were working around the home and caring for the younger children. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1940 majoring in Commercial Courses. Beryl attended Catherman's Business School in Cumberland, Maryland for approximately 8 months and then went to Baltimore for employment.


Her first job was Montgomery Wards on Baltimore Washington Parkway for approximately 6 weeks, got homesick and returned home to Oakland.
Beryl returned to Baltimore in 1942 and worked at Glenn L. Martin Aviation Plant as a typist in the subcontracting department for approximately 1 year, leaving to work for Federal Housing until she met and married William Anthony Benda in 1944. In 1947 William A. Benda, Jr. was born and in 1949 Susan Beryl Daniel was born.


In 1961 Beryl worked for C. Hoffberger Oil Company part time as a seasonal worker and full time in 1964, retiring in 1985.
Beryl enjoyed gardening, bird watching and traveling, but most of all spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.


Beryl is survived by her brother, Sherwood Ramsey, son, William Anthony Benda, Jr. and daughter, Susan Beryl (Benda) Daniel (Nelson); grandchildren, James Brian Daniel (Kris); Matthew Benda, Richard Benda, Jessie (Benda) Forsythe (Steve) great great-granddaughter, Lillian Grace Forsythe; great-grandchildren, Joseph Brian Daniel (Bronwyn); Kelsey Maureen (Daniel) Mottilla (Justin); great-great-grandson Kolton Stambaugh and due at any time ''Nixon Mottilla" Also survived by many nieces and nephews.


Friends may call at family owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P. A. at 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex at route 702 (beltway exit 36) on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Interment in Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1901 Middleborough Road, Baltimore., MD 21221 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, 1N 38101-9929
