Calvin T. Soper, Sr.

Calvin Thomas Soper, Sr. passed away on Jan. 9, 2023 at the age of 96. He was the sixth of 12 children born to Milburn Soper, Sr. and Jennie Marie Bayline. After serving in World War II, Calvin married his wife of 74 years, Mary " May" Lyons on November 8, 1947. Calvin is survived by his five children Calvin Soper, Jr. and wife Kathy of Middle River, Richard Soper, Sr. and wife Pam of Glen Rock, PA, Patricia Ceryes of Lutherville, Margaret Lookingbill of Rosedale, and Phillip Soper of Dundalk. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as his sister Betty Lou Virts of Darlington and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his wife May, son-in-law Joseph Lookingbill, Jr., grandson Keith McCadden and his siblings Ruth Garner, Milburn Soper, Jr., Edward Soper, Jeannette Richardson, Jennie Marie Hepburn, Edith Strickland, Richard Soper, Louis Soper, John Soper and Jack Soper. Calvin grew up in Waverly and spent his adult years living in Armistead Gardens, North Point Village, Perry Hall, Middle River and Essex. He was an upholsterer and worked for Monroe Upholstery in West Baltimore before he and his brothers started their own business, Soper Brothers Upholstery in the early 1970s. He retired from Soper Brothers in 1988.Calvin enjoyed watching old movies, listening to opera and classical music, and reading the newspaper. He would often clip comics and articles out of newspapers for his children and grandchildren to read if something in the comic or article reminded him of them.

Friends may call at family owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P. A. at 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex  at route 702 (beltway exit 36) on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral service on Friday at 10:00 am in St. Luke Church 7517 N. Point Rd. Sparrows Point, Maryland 21219. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
