Edith Dale Summerford (Nee Lawson), 86, of Essex, Maryland passed away peacefully on March 17, 2016 in Westminster. Edith was born on October 3, 1929 in Raleigh County, West Virginia to the late Marion and Ida Lawson. Edith was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Walter R. Summerford Jr.; siblings the late Freda Brant, Lucian Lawson, Lois Amereihn, daughter Susan and granddaughter Stacey Evans.
She is survived by her three children : Angie Hamlin and her husband Bob, Phyllis Smith and her husband Eric and Randy Summerford as well as her sister Veda Hutson. Edith is also survived by six grandchildren: Lauren Kucharski, Jordan and Alex Smith, Matthew, Benjamin and Jeffery Summerford as well as three great grandchildren: Keola Evans, Jackson, Maya and Arya Kucharski. Also survived by goddaughter Pam Carroll and other loving family and friends.
Edith was a homemaker her entire adult life. She and her husband Walter were members of Essex United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy in her life was her family. She spent her free time fundraising and using her creative talents to serve those less fortunate.
Friends may call at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P. A. at 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex at route 702 (beltway exit 36) on Sunday from 3-5 pm & 7-9 pm. Funeral service on Monday at 11 am. Entombment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Edith’s name to either: Stella Maris, Attn: Development Office, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road Timonium, Maryland 21093 or to Essex United Methodist Church, 524 Maryland Avenue Essex, Maryland 21221.
