Eunice Jacqueline (Hettes) Myers

Eunice Jacqueline (Hettes) Myers, 82 years of age, peacefully passed over to Heaven, to be with God and her loving husband of 62 years Louis Carville on January 15th, 2019 at her home in Bradenton, FL.  Eunice, who was known as “Jacki” to friends and co-workers, was born in Scranton, PA on June 21, 1936 to Linton Warren Hettes and Catherine Mary (Jones) Hettes. She was predeceased by her mother (1950), her father (1977), her mother-in law Lula Katherine (Berk) Myers Mroz (1995), her sister Edna Mae (Hettes) Reed (1955), her brother Linton Reese (1975) and her sister Catherine Davis (Hettes) Butler (2016).

Eunice’s family moved to Baltimore, MD in 1941 to seek better employment during the second world war. She graduated from Patterson Park High School, where she was a member of the choir, in June of 1954.  She was hired by The Baltimore, Gas and Electric Company (B,G&E) upon graduation as an administrative assistant. She could type a “lightning fast” 90 words per minute! During high school in 1952, Eunice met her true love, Louis Carville Myers, at the roller rink in Essex, MD.  They were married on July 14, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church and had two children, a son, Louis William Myers (Bill), married to Deborah Ann, and a daughter, Jacqueline Jean Heisse (Jacki), married to Steven Joseph.   Eunice lived and raised her family in Essex, MD for over 60 years and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church.

In 1960, Jacki took a 16-year break from working at B,G&E in order to be a full-time Mom to her children.  She made their lives special by playing the piano at Bible School, participating at school events, co-piloting family vacation trips and promoting music lessons, and the importance of a good education.  She tracked all her children’s achievements from the baby book to graduations to promotions at work. She baked the most beautiful Christmas sugar cookies and delicious chocolate chip cookies which she shared with extended family, friends and co-workers.  She also decorated unique personalized eggs each Easter. She would always give the weather report when waking Bill and Jacki each morning for school.  She also would write notes and draw pictures on the napkins she put in Lou’s and her children’s packed lunches. Another pleasure of hers was to watch Bill play the drums in different bands during his teens and early 20’s. Her husband and children were always her first priority. She was the best Mom anyone could hope for.

Jacki went back to work at BG&E in 1976 in order to help save for family college tuition.  She worked in various administrative positions for 27 years and was one of their most loyal employees.  She particularly enjoyed working in the Employee Services Department where service pins were distributed, service dinners were arranged, bloodmobiles were managed, employee sports leagues were organized and discount tickets for special events, such as the annual Hershey Park Day were sold. One of her most memorable experiences at work was riding in a helicopter to Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Plant. Jacki also gave over 8 gallons of her own blood at BG&E sponsored blood mobiles.

After retiring in 1997, she enjoyed traveling with her husband to visit family and interesting sites across the United States.  They traveled to Hawaii three times for anniversary celebrations and visited Branson, MO, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and Atlantic City, NJ, as well as many other places across the country. During retirement, Jacki started making custom photo greeting cards for family and friends. She had always kept in touch with extended family and friends with cards but these cards were special and everyone loved them.  Eunice was special in the way she kept in touch with all her nieces and nephews and their families across the US and remembered all their birthdays and their children’s birthdays. In later years, she also stayed in touch using email and Facebook.

Mr. and Mrs. Myers moved to Bradenton, FL on February 1, 2017 in order to be close to their daughter for care and to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery on the gulf coast. She was particularly fond of watching the birds in the pond outside her window and appreciated the flowers blooming year-round.  She also enjoyed all the local restaurants, especially the fresh fish and all the new friends she met.

Eunice is survived by her children and their spouses, cousins, and all her nieces and nephews and their families, and of course her friends.  She is also survived by her helping hand Cynthia.  She was the toughest, most loyal person who would always see the good in people. She was positive and cheerful even in the face of a terminal cancer.  She always put others first.  Heaven is better to have her and the world is not the same without her.

A viewing will be held at Bruzdzinski Funeral Home at 1407 Old Eastern Avenue in Essex, MD from 3 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm on Friday, January 18th, 2019.  The Funeral Service is at St. John’s Lutheran Church 518 Franklin Ave at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 19th, 2019.
