GRANTSVILLE - Larry Franklin Hensley, 70, of Grantsville, MD passed away Tuesday, Febuary 23, 2016 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Larry was born January 5, 1946 in Webbville, KY to the late Lovel and Virginia Hensley. He was preceded in death by his brother Lonnie B Hensley.
Larry graduated from Sparrows Point High School in Baltimore County, MD in 1964. Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in Vietnam for fourteen months; during which time he received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with Valor. After his return, he worked as a Breakman/Conductor for Patapsco and Back River Railroad, until moving to Western Maryland to begin a career as a Park Ranger for the State of Maryland. Later he earned degrees at both West Virginia University and Frostburg State University. He enjoyed looking after his farm, was a member of V.V.A. Chapter #172, and was passionate about investing in the stock market and researching genealogy.
Surviving is his wife of 46 years Virginia “Ginger” (Lowery) Hensley; sons Brian C. Hensley and wife Jessica of Fallston, MD and Matthew A. Hensley of Cresaptown; grandchildren Ty, Kieran, and Ella Hensley; and brothers Jerry and Rodger Hensley. Larry is also survived by a large extended family.
Friends and family will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy, Cresaptown, MD; Thursday, February 25th from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
An additional viewing will be held at Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, P.A. 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex, MD; Friday, February 26th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be held in Back River United Methodist, 544 Back River Neck Rd, Essex, MD; Saturday, February 27th at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
