Leonard M. Thornton Sr., son of the late Leslie and Pearl Thornton, was born October 16, 1947, in Baltimore, MD. He was called to Glory on November 30, 2023. At an early age, Leonard professed his faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.  He then became an attendee at First Baptist Church of Cherry Hill.  He was educated in the Baltimore City public school system. Leonard was an exceptional athlete in high school. He played football, basketball, and run track.

After graduating from Edmondson High School, Leonard served four years in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged, he was employed at Avalon Hill. He married the late Lena Williams on May 6, 1977. He had great love for his children Tonya, Karen (deceased), LaCarol, and Leonard Jr.

Leonard married his second wife the late Carol Thornton on July 4, 1996.  Leonard leaves to cherish his memory: 3 daughters; Tonya Thornton-Davis, Karen Williams and LaCarol Thornton, 1 stepdaughter; Sandy (deceased), 1 son; Leonard Thornton Jr., 2 stepsons; Brain and Mark, 2 brothers; Leslie Thornton Jr. (deceased), James Thronton, 2 sisters; Ernestine Murphy and Cleo Sawer; 14 grandchildren; Ariel, Javone, Christian, Deamione, Emerald, Tangia, Tiahrell, Dajae, Jade, Talia, Aniya, Chrissy, Darius, and Salena, 5 great grandchildren; Malik, Halo, Samaya, Brayden, Brycen and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

A private cremation was held.
