On August 2, 2012, Mary Dorothy Silkowski, Member of Saint Clare Parish, Born February 6, 1916 in Shamokin, Pa., fourth of six children, Johanna, Betty, John, Helen and Eleanor, the last of surviving sibling to Joana Sikora and John Kisela.
After graduating High School she was trained by and worked for a time as a chair side dental assistant.
Married to Stanley S. Silkowski (a former Martin Marietta Tool and Die Maker) on May 29, 1940. He preceeded her in death on January 21, 1983. She worked for several years as a dental assistant after moving to Essex. She also raised 4 children, Gene Silkowski and his wife Arloween of Colorado, Mary Thorn and her husband Robert of Indiana, Louise Gudac and her husband Steve of Alabama and Joseph Silkowski of Baltimore.. She also later worked as a bookeeper for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, retiring in July 1981. She played Piano, enjoyed cooking, crafting, gardening and meeting her friends to dine out or play dominoes.
She and her husband traveled widely in the U.S., Hawaii, and China. She spoke and could write Slovak. She tinted black and white portraits with oils before color prints, later tried her hand at oils on canvas. She is Grandmother of 6, Tim, Jonathan, Steve, Stephanie, Kathee and Chris and great grandmother of 4, Andrew, Joshua, Megan and Rachel.
Friends may call at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, P.A., 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex at route 702 (Beltway Exit 36) on Monday from 11 AM to 1 PM. Funeral service on Monday 1 PM. Interment Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.
