Mary Lou Murphy (Reed) age 86, of Bowley’s Quarters, MD passed away peacefully at home with family on June 18, 2022.   She was born on March 30, 1936 to Nancy and George Reed.  Mary Lou was a devoted and wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Bowley’s Quarters Volunteer Fire Department and a lifetime member of the Essex Elks Lodge No. 1866.  Mary Lou was adored by her family and will be missed greatly.

Mary Lou will be lovingly remembered by her children; Larry Sweringen (Cindy), Karen Gale (Jim), Steven Murphy Sr. (Doris), and daughter-in-law, Peggy Sweringen (Bob). Mary Lou was survived by her grandchildren; Heidi Bertrand (Jake), Kris Sweringen (Teresa), Steven Murphy Jr. (Crystal), Brett Sweringen (Jenna), Renee Eck (DJ), Matthew Murphy (Kimberly), Jessica Murphy, Alyssa Gale (Mike), Taylor Gale (Jeff) and her great grandchildren; Kristopher, Joseph, Blake, Kyleigh, Emma, Caelyn, Madalyn, Nicolas, Avery, Alton, Logan, Colson, Fin, and Eli.  She is survived by her sister May Eckert, sister in laws, Judy Reed and Barbara Reed, many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Patrick Murphy, son, Gordon Sweringen, and siblings Robert Reed, Charles Reed, and George Reed, and brother-in-law Bernie Eckert.

A viewing will be held at Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, P.A., 1407 Old Eastern Ave, Essex, MD 21221 on Thursday, June 23, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Bruzdzinski Funeral Home on Friday, June 24, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, 10201 Bird River Rd, Baltimore, MD 21220.
