Roy D. Rowan, Sr. 95 of Essex, MD went to his eternal reward on Friday, January 15, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by daughter Andrea Reid and her husband Bill of Laurel, DE; Ronald Rowan and his wife Gail of Middle River, MD; Roy D. Rowan, Jr. and his wife Trish of AK; Robert D. Rowan and his wife Yvonne of FL; James Rowan and his friend of Essex, MD, Vivian Spratley and her husband of VA; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great, great grandchild. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Elsie, his parents Mr. & Mrs. Roy Rowan, a son Roger, and daughter and Paula Collins.
Mr. Rowan was a World War II veteran. He served in the Pacific theater. He was awarded The American Defense Service Ribbon; American Theater; Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with/1 Bronze Star; Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal World War II.
Mr. Roy was concerned about others: For over 30 years he volunteered on Sunday morning as part of the Essex Church of God worship service at the Riverview Rehabitation & Nursing Center. Before her death Roy and Elsie will gather blankets and cloths to distribute to the inner city resident of Baltimore. Their home adopted many who were in need of a temporary place to call home!
Friends may call at family owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P. A. at 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex at route 702 (beltway exit 36) on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services on Thursday at 11:00 am. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
