Sharen Kaylor, née Barney, 75, passed on March 7, 2024. Born in Hartford, Connecticut to Curtis and Phyllis Barney on February 22, 1949, and raised in East Hampton, CT, she was the oldest of 5 siblings. During the Vietnam War, she served in the Air Force where she met and fell in love with the love of her life, her husband George. They moved to Middle River, Maryland, after their service in the Air Force. Together, they raised two amazing sons: Damian and Scott.
Sharen had an adventurous spirit, taking time to truly experience everything she could, appreciating the beauty of the world everywhere she went. Her favorite thing to do was travel to new places with her best friend, Judy Peake, and her husband, George. They visited natural wonders, toured historic places, ate local cuisines and specialties, and tried new things. No matter how far from home she went, she always took the time to call her family and tell them stories of her travels and post photos of all of her adventures.
Her last few Facebook posts were the most poignant, capturing the essence of who she was. She posted, “My grandchildren make my heart happy.” She was an amazing mother who loved her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews with all of her heart. And, what made her special, was how she expressed that love to her family every chance that she had.
As a long time member of the former Piney Grove United Methodist Church and most recently, Boulevard Christian Church, Sharen was a devout Christian who truly lived her faith. She expressed her faith through countless years of teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. She also served meals to the community and knitted crafts for the area nursing homes. She cherished her church families who have been a source of love, support, and comfort to the family. One of her last Facebook posts was a beautiful Bible verse, “Light has no shadow. ‘God is light, in Him there is no darkness at all’ 1 John 1:5.”
She is survived by her husband, George Kaylor; her son Damian Kaylor and his wife Stacy, their daughters Megan Kaylor and partner Chris Semp, Emily Kaylor, and Hailey Kaylor; her son Scott Kaylor, his wife Kristin, and daughters Kathryn Kaylor and Charlotte Kaylor; her siblings Kathy Senkbeil and her husband Robert, Stephen Barney, Laurie Wyman and her husband Maury, and Ken Barney and his wife Jessica; and numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She is preceded by her parents Curtis Barney and Phyllis Barney, her in-laws George and Betty Kaylor, and her brother in law Ken Kaylor.
