Verna Dale Yannacci
April 13, 1941 - August 22, 2022
On August 22, 2022, Verna Dale Yannacci passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a long battle with breast cancer. A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt.
Survived by her children: Laurena Wanger (David Wanger), Karen Garcia (Michael Garcia), Lawrence Yannacci, Jr. (Jill Cline), Matthew Yannacci, Mark Yannacci; her grandchildren: Jennifer, Michael, Jackie, Melissa, Carrie, Jeanette, Amanda, Brandon, Zowie, and Jace; great-grandchildren: Morgan, Savannah, Mason, Maddix, Ariella, and Miles; and Siblings: Bud Peterson, Mary Styles, Earlene McCourry and Bettie Stanko.
Verna loved spending quality time with her family, and she treasured every moment. She enjoyed going to Church, listening to bluegrass music, gardening/canning, traveling back home, and eating peanut butter swirl ice cream. Verna was the youngest of twelve children, born in Burnsville, NC to the late Elizabeth and Benjamin Peterson. She graduated in 1959 from Cane River High School of Yancey Co. Shortly after high school she followed her brother Clay and other family to Middle River, MD and found a job at Western Electric. Her brother Clay eventually purchased a large farm in White Hall that became the family gathering place. Verna was married on January 9, 1965, she raised her family in Parkville, MD and later purchased her own home in White Hall to be near her mother and siblings. Verna wore many hats over the years but retired from MBNA in 2006.
The reflection of her beauty and kind heart is easily seen through her children and grandchildren. The many lives she has inspired speaks volumes to the depth of her soul and the quality of her relationship with God. She inspired everyone around her to be a better person and to entrust in God. Verna was born a true caregiver and always put everyone else before herself. She selflessly cared for several family members in their final days, including her mother, husband, and siblings. She continued to care for her blind sister, Mary, even after her re-diagnosis of cancer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be mailed to Hereford Baptist Church (P.O. Box 304, Parkton MD, 21111-0304).
